Long-term and Prophylactic Antibiotics (22CPD022)

Long-term and Prophylactic Antibiotics (22CPD022)

Antibiotics are an important tool for the treatment of certain bacterial infections and are mainly used as short courses. However, in some situations, patients may require longer treatment courses, stand-by/rescue treatment or as a prophylactic agent to prevent infection.

Antibiotic resistance is an increasing problem in healthcare today. Therefore, the prudent and appropriate use of long term/prophylactic antibiotics is more important than ever. We all have a role to play in ensuring our patients have the appropriate treatment while being mindful of the challenge antibiotic resistance poses to healthcare today.

Join our panel of specialist Antimicrobial Pharmacists on this webinar to understand the background to their use and evidence for appropriate prescribing. The focus of the session will be around the appropriate management and review of patients on long-term/prophylactic antibiotics.
